Beautiful Watches Are Being Made By a Lot of Companies
A beautiful watch does so much more than tell time. It's a reflection of your personality—a statement. Wearing a watch gives a person a different feeling to themselves. It’s a specific style that also provides a level of functionality that other accessories can’t. Practical at times, watches convey success, self-esteem, and personal care. Not just any watch will do, however. Especially these days, anyone can get the time by looking at their phone. When's the last time someone asked you for the time? Fortunately, some companies specialize in creating works of art that also happen to tell time. In this article, we'll look at several of the most iconic companies producing beautiful watches, as well as some of their top brands' features and products.
1 - Rolex
Rolex is a collector's favorite, as the brand has grown since its humble beginnings in 1905. What makes Rolex really stand out is the company's attention to detail. Every watch takes twelve months to produce. Manufactured using unique, rust-resistant steel, Rolex watches shine when polished. Divers love Rolex, as each watch is rigorously tested for water resistance and air leaks. Other features include hand-selected stones, such as rubies and diamonds, hand-selected for each watch by a team of certified gemologists.
2 - Movado
This Swiss watchmaker started off making pocket watches in 1881. Today, the company is renowned for making stylish and high-quality watches. One of their more popular brands is the Museum Watch model, which features a minimalist, round face with a single dot dial. These watches look great in either formal or casual settings. The Movado 800 Series lines up very well to the Rolex Submariner and is considered their top-of-the-line watch. Divers can operate up to 200-metres below seawater, and the watch features a 40mm stainless steel case.
3 - Bulova
Founded in New York in 1875 by Joseph Bulova, an immigrant from Bohemia, Bulova Watch Company created the first electronic watch. The company even installed its "Accutron" technology on the first manned space flight. Today, the company specializes in manufacturing watches that are stylish yet affordable, usually under $500. The Precisionist Chrono is a thickset watch made of stainless steel, perfect for water sports. The Lunar Pilot Chrono, priced around $400, is a replica of the timepiece worn on the moon by Dave Scott during Apollo 15. At Bulova's top end, but still moderately priced at $500, is the CURV Chronograph, which features a UHF quartz movement and a 5-hand Chrono.
4 - Timex
Perhaps the most popular timepiece of all time, Timex has a long history of watchmaking. Originally called Waterbury Clock Company, the company eventually merged with Ingersoll Watch Company. An interesting fact is that they supplied the Military during WWI with some of the first wristwatches made, as soldiers began to value telling time while mobile. These days, the company makes timepieces that feature digital enhancements that track heart rate, steps, and workouts. Athletes prefer these pieces, but that doesn't mean they don't look great! George W. Bush famously wore a stylish model that conveyed his "everyman" look and avoided having to tell time using hands while president.
5 - Seiko
Seiko's history goes back to 1881 when Kintarō Hattori founded the company. Innovative practices led to the company's growth, as they introduced the world's first quartz watch with a chronograph complication and one of the first-ever wristwatches. Seiko is still innovative and has one of the best values in the industry. A significant advantage Seiko employs is its replacement parts process. Parts are easy to find online, and the company has excellent customer service.
6 - Tag Heuer
Lastly, Tag Heuer is one of the most popular "high-end" watches that don't break the bank. Known as the preferred watch of many sports stars, such as Derek Jeter and Tiger Woods, the company has positioned itself as an affordable yet classy option. They look robust, are durable, and convey sophistication, as well as adventure. It was also the first Swiss watch in space.
